Melbourne to Darwin Handcycling Trek Started Today
Wednesday 17th February, 2010
Today Andreas Dagelet from Brisbane, a handcyclist who rode around Australia in 2005 and Dale Elliot from Adelaide, a skydiver and comedian, headed on an amazing journey of hope and giving.
In addition to riding 5000 km from Melbourne to Darwin they will visit 150+ schools and hundreds of community groups in a bid to raise $200,000 to help cure 1000 children in Africa of clubfoot and give them the gift of walking.
I along with Senator Mitch Fifield were in Melbourne's City Square this morning at the start of this epic journey.
We will be following the journey until their arrival in Darwin on June the 5th.

Andreas Dagelet
Andreas Dagelet is living proof of the adage you canʼt keep a good man down! This New Zealand born, Australian naturalised, human dynamo has packed much into his 4 decades.
A former Pilot Officer in the Air Force, this adventurer has worked at everything from Night Club worker, to
Bank Officer, Speaker, Architect and Travel Agent. He has also travelled to 49 countries over 5 continents, skydived, scuba dived and flown aerobatic aircraft. The most amazing thing about Andreas is that most of these achievements have been accomplished on his wheelchair!
After breaking his back in 1995 in an act of self- confessed foolishness involving a large tree and the force of gravity, Andreas took on the challenge of a major physical disability with the
same vigour he gave to all his earlier ventures. His greatest dream is to help as many people as he can reach their potential.
Dale Elliot
Dale pushes the boundaries of his abilities while sitting in his wheelchair. Once a Commercial Pilot & Aircraft Engineer, Daleʼs life took a rapid diversion after a motorbike accident left him a paraplegic.
The experiences Dale encountered during his new life in a chair forced him to
think outside the square & regain the confidence to seize the opportunities around him. Dale is an award winning sit-down/stand- up comedian and has traveled across Australia performing the hilarious experiences of his life both in and out of a wheelchair. st
Dale is also the 1 paraplegic to skydive solo in Australia and is the 2nd paraplegic to do it in the world. Dale has been married since 1997 to his ʻTrooperʼ of a Wife, together, along with their son they have endured and continue to conquer the challenges of Daleʼs debilitating injury.
